Carbonel by Barbara Sleigh5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() I would recommend to younger kids (not middle grade age, but younger) and adults who enjoy charming children’s stories. THE KINGDOM OF CARBONEL FREE DOWNLOAD Author: Barbara Sleigh, Richard Kennedy Number of Pages: 237 pages Published Date: Publisher: NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS Publication Country: New York, NY, United States Language: English ISBN: 9781590173152 Download Link: CLICK HERE. ![]() I enjoyed the writing style and the story it stands up to the test of time very nicely. Overall this was a wonderful story about a young girl and her magical cat and the summer she spends hunting treasure with him. My 11 year old son started to read this and stopped because he thought it was boring so this book would probably be better for younger kids or adults who enjoy charming kids stories. Still this was a great read and something I think kids and adults will both enjoy. She bought them both in the market, quite cheaply. There is some terminology in here that is a bit dated and I kind of had to use the surrounding context to figure out what some words meant. Carbonel Barbara Sleigh, Click to preview This is the story of a cat, a broomstick and an ordinary schoolgirl called Rosemary. There’s a bit of a treasure hunt theme to this book and I enjoyed it a lot. I loved Carbonel and the wonderful relationship Rosemary has with her mother, as well as the friendship she develops with John. ![]() This was a fun children’s book that is well written and stands the test of time pretty well. ![]()

The night burns bright ross barkan5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() Montell asks how charismatic leaders exploit people’s fundamental needs: “How do they cultivate that kind of power?” She tells us, “The real answer all comes down to words. Cults are not necessarily destructive, but where there’s power, there’s often abuse.Ĭults we’re familiar with may have featured “a dangerous undercurrent … psychological and sexual abuse … forced fasting and sleep deprivation, threats of violence toward anyone attempting to leave the group, suicides, even an unsolved murder.” The author tells us when she compared such groups, “the methods used to assert such power - to create community and solidarity, to establish an ‘us’ and a ‘them,’ to align collective values, to justify questionable behavior, to instill ideology and inspire fear - were uncannily, cultishly similar.” Montell explains that the most basic traits of cults are a “distinctive vernacular” and a charismatic leader (usually male, often called guru, master or father). ![]() “Our behavior is driven by a desire for belonging and purpose,” she tells us. But in the captivating book “Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism,” author Amanda Montell shows how we are all susceptible to the power of cults. ![]() I think it’s human nature to be fascinated with cults - maybe because we think we’re too smart to be pulled into the net of a cult leader. ![]()

52 pick up book5/9/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Reasonably well produced on Los Angeles locations, 52 Pick-Up puts Roy Scheider and Ann-Margret at the center of an exceedingly nasty murder/blackmail plot that never quite comes together.Īerospace industrialist Harry Mitchell (Roy Scheider) is married to Barbara, a beautiful politician considering a run for office (Ann-Margret), but the marriage isn't doing well. 52 Pick-Up brought in once-hot director John Frankenheimer to guide a script by Elmore Leonard, a now much better appreciated author. ![]() Many people know about Freud because his work has had a huge impact on our everyday thinking about psychology, and the psychodynamic approach is one of the most important approaches to psychological therapy (Roudinesco, 2003 Taylor, 2009). Freud is probably the best known of all psychologists, in part because of his impressive observation and analyses of personality (there are 24 volumes of his writings). One of the most important psychological approaches to understanding personality is based on the theorizing of the Austrian physician and psychologist Sigmund Freud (1856–1939), who founded what today is known as the psychodynamic approach, an approach to understanding human behaviour that focuses on the role of unconscious thoughts, feelings, and memories. Psychodynamic Theories of Personality: The Role of the Unconscious In this section we will consider two major theories of the origin of personality: psychodynamic and humanistic approaches. Identify the major contributions of the humanistic approach to understanding personality.Īlthough measures such as the Big Five and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) are able to effectively assess personality, they do not say much about where personality comes from. ![]() ![]() ![]() Summarize the accomplishments of the neo-Freudians.Describe the strengths and limitations of the psychodynamic approach to explaining personality. ![]() |
